FFA Northern Ploughing match 2014 held on Sunday 2nd November 2014

at Towton Battlefield, Towton, North Yorkshire

Sunday 2nd of November arrived in a flash , after 2 days of pegging out , towing the caravan office in to place , putting flagpoles and flags up and collecting raffle prizes etc suddenly all our efforts were put to task.
6:30am I opened the gates , the caterers were first in and were soon busy setting up their van for a much earned cup of tea for the soon to arrive ploughmen.
By 9.30 some 70 ploughmen had arrived , including the marvellously enthusiastic and always smiling FFA team from the Netherlands.
"Bang" .......... 10 am and up went the rocket to start the competition , soon everyone was deep in concentration trying to achieve the perfect furrow on a 200 acre field kindly donated by Hartley farms and their extremely helpful and enthusiastic farm manager Paul Saxton.
A large crowd of spectators arrived by lunch and made a large field come to life and complete a wonderful spectacle , by 2:30pm most ploughmen had completed their battle with their plots and at 3'oclock the finishing rocket went up , soon ploughs, tractors etc were loaded up and everyone made their way over to the FFA Marquee for the final moments of results & prize giving, speeches of thanks to All who had helped in putting on this 2014 Ploughing Match and making it another great Northern Ploughing Success.
