The Northern FFA Ploughing Match 2018

Roger Ingham reports: was held Sunday 11th of November on a site kindly provided by the landowner Mr. Peter Zeigler.
It was hosted by Scarcroft and District Ploughing Society to which we are deeply indebted for their kindness and help on staging this year’s championship.                                                                                                                                           Overnight rain made the site a bit clarty but undaunted the hardy ploughmen turned up in droves to make it a great day.  Soon everyone was at their plots     and the match commenced.   This year I was judging along with a few other fine characters. As the day rolled on, we found an amazing difference in the quality of the plots; looking at it from both ends one end looked good whilst the other end showed lots of faults; this is the reason for two judges one at either end making the scorecards tally up to produce a fair result.
The rain kept showering making it a bit sticky to both plough and walk on but by 2pm the match was over, bringing the day to a damp close. Soon the ploughmen were sliding and slithering out of the field on their way home.
Results for the FFA champions were:
Trailer Champion - Chris Donaldson
Vintage Mounted - John Lewis
Classic - Antony Boldan
Overall Champion - Congratulations to Antony Boldan
